I am a published and awarded urban researcher and university instructor who specializes in the sociology of cities and communities, along with the sociology of gender and sexuality. In my 7+ years of experience teaching and researching, I have taught and mentored over 370 students while publishing in leading, peer-reviewed academic venues including Oxford University Press and Ethnography. At the heart of my teaching and research is an interest in exploring how social inequalities and opportunities affect the cultures and communities of underrepresented minorities. My dissertation, Here, There, and Everywhere: Culture, Space, and the Search for Queer Communities utilizes in-person and digital qualitative methods to show how LGBTQIA+ people navigate increasingly expensive urban areas, turning towards regional resources in order to forge social, political, romantic, and sexual ties. My dissertation was awarded honorable mention of the Martin P. Levine Dissertation Award by the American Sociological Association. In addition to my teaching and research experience, I have served in various service roles. For four years, I was the Graduate Coordinator for the Urban Inequalities Workshop, an interdisciplinary academic workshop that brings together researchers and practitioners of urban issues from across the world to discuss cutting-edge research (sponsored by the Initiative On Cities). I have also served as a mentor to graduate and undergraduate students. I was also a co-organizer and presider for a panel at the global 2023 conference: Gentrification, What Can We Do About It? An International Dialogue. To view more information on my professional teaching and research experience, click here or the "Résumé, CV, and Publications" tab at the top of the page. In addition to my academic and professional work, I am also an amateur urban and street photographer and a father to Bix, my black cat of eight years.
